India's Central India
Khajuraho
Within this breathtaking World Heritage Site rests the magnificent group of temples to strike both awe and intrigue. Built by the prolific Chandela Dynasty between the 9th and 10th centuries, the Khajuraho Temples epitomize the pinnacle of North Indian temple art and architecture, best reflected in their grand dimensions, complexity and erotic sculptural embellishment. The finest and most well known of these temples is the grand Kandariya Mahadev Temple, glorious in every facet.
Today, of the original 85 architectural delights, only 25 remain. Explore the Western Group, the largest and most well known of the collection, and their divine sculptural attributes including ornate erotic depictions and intriguing sculpted narratives, or venture to witness the treasures of the Eastern Group, where the last remaining Jain Temple survives proudly and the Javeri Temple continues to honor the great Vishnu.
