Thailand's The Southern Peninsula
Krabi
A laidback fishing village, Krabi serves as a fine point to venture onward to some of Thailand’s larger, more popular islands. However, the innate charm and relaxed ambiance of this picturesque travel hub is well worth a visit of its own.
Situated on the bank of an estuary, Krabi offers an attractive, undeveloped setting in which to relax and enjoy the natural Thai appeal. Thanon Kongka provides a pleasant evening environment with its Krabi River walkway and mobile dining stands, while Thanon Maharat, the main street of the island, offers a more energetic approach to Krabi. Ao Nang, a short boat ride from Krabi’s shores, proves the most popular beach resort, while equally as attractive stretches of soft white sands are speckled throughout the town.
However, it is Krabi’s abundance of adventurous delights that draws visitors from around the globe to this humble coastal retreat. Hang from the ledges of the picturesque limestone formations of Ton Sai or Railay, found along Krabi’s Andaman Coast, or Scuba the crystal clear waters for which it is known. Just off its shores, rests a thick swamp of mangroves ready to delight your senses as you paddle your kayak through this lush maze.
