Trongsa

Bhutan

A sleepy town perched above a gorge, it becomes immediately clear why the Trongsa Dzong is so famous; set above the Mangde River, the awe-inspiring watchtower continues to look out over the valley just as it did during the town's glory years in the 19th Century. Beyond the dzong, the white-washed traditional shops of Trongsa, many run by local families of Tibetan & Bhutanese descent, have long been a welcome sight for travelers making their way to either Punakha, Bumthang or Gelephu.
