Goa Lawah & Tenganan Villages

Visit Goa Lawah and Tenganan, the village of the Aga tribe who have their own culture and live in a totally different style of architecture, a walled-in isolationist town (which is totally different from any other community in Bali).

Seldom do the young people marry outside the village, which has resulted in zero population growth. Tenganan is the only place in all of Indonesia where double-ikat cloths are woven. The cloths are used for ceremonial purposes: weddings, teeth-filings, covering the dead, or for a child's first haircut. Only about 30 people still weave gringsings on small makeshift breastlooms.
