Home Hosted Tea Ceremony in The City of Ten Thousand Shrines

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

Kyoto, Japan

As part of the Kyoto Women’s Association ongoing efforts to introduce visitors to the artistic pastimes of this ancient city, this one-of-a-kind home-hosted lesson will introduce you to the basics of Japan’s time-honored tea ceremony process; your instructor will impart on you the ritualistic manners of the tea ceremony, as well as the history and significance of this unique social gathering.

After stepping through the door to their home, unwind in an utterly tranquil environment while you learn about the various matcha powders used in tea and discover first-hand how to whisk the frothy-green mixture.

Once the teacher has explained the basics, you will have the chance to try your hand at preparing the tea yourself; once the ceremony is over, you will leave the instructor’s home armed with both a new skill as well as a memory that will last a lifetime.
