Enjoy a visit to the Miho Museum, a joint Japanese-American project designed by I.M. Pei and opened on a scenic mountainside in 1996; the Miho’s architecture is as amazing as the Shumei family’s collection within.
There are breathtaking pieces of art from the ancient Kingdom of Bactria, Egypt, Persia, Greece, Tajikistan, China, Japan, and Korea. Collecting began more than 50 years ago by Mihoko Koyama. Inspired by her desire to share unsurpassed beauty with the world, Mrs. Koyama and the religious sect with which she was associated, the Shinji Shumeikai, expanded the collection to more than 1,000 objects spanning four millennia. Each work exemplifies the highest artistic achievement and celebrates the limitless potential of the human spirit.
