Aurangabad, India
Re-discovered by a tiger hunting British soldier in 1819, these incredible Buddhist caves date back to the 2nd century and have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
The Ajanta caves consist of 24 monasteries and 5 temples which have been hewn out of solid rock. The wall paintings and frescoes of these caves are covered in beautifully drawn lines and a wealth of color. The walls retell the story of Buddha while mirroring the culture of that period.
